And I have joined instagram - my id is @jesskittyparker (I tend to post my ink drawings and stuff there.)

I will probably stop updating this site soon and make the switch to just updating jesskittyparker.tumblr.com and instagram.

Thanks very much for reading  :)

Squishzine Brunstown (best title for a zine ever)

So Squishface has been commissioned by Moreland Council to make a Brunswick themed zine, and I've contributed a 4 page comic about a collection of Brunswickian couples I've spotted around the place, (below is the first page minus text etc.)

Ben Hutchings has contributed an awesome cover for the book and it will be full of great Squishfacer's art - to see the cover and more info head over the Squishface's site.

The zine will be launched on the 26th of Oct and will be FREE - given out around Moreland in Melbourne over the following months, I'll post again when we know exactly where to point people, but I assume we'll have some at Squishface too. :)

Melbourne Writers Festival (last weekend)

Started off the day by drawing a Marmot to relax before heading into the city to draw at the Melbourne Writers Festival:

We (Squishfacers) took turns drawing at a desk that had a camera set up that projected what we were drawing up on to the big screen in the atrium at Fed Square. I started drawing Pizza Dog/ Lucky from Hawkeye - inking him there and then finishing off the colouring later.

Then the gals and I went to the first meeting of the All Star Women's Comic Book Club, which was awesome - if you're a girl in Melbourne and have even a passing interest in comics I would recommend going. There was a fairly large turn out of over 60 women all talking comics, I met some cool people and was introduced to some books I hadn't read before, as well as talking about how everyone loves Saga and the ending of Locke and Key -  which was great.

I looove it and have been scribblin' little made- up portraits with it.

Squishface Studio

Also at the start of the year I joined Squishface comic studio in Brunswick (in the top pic - there's some of my stuff hung in the window!) It is a open studio, where you can also purchase the artists' books, merch and prints/drawings. It is rad, also getting to meet some great artists; Ben, David, Teags and Sarah and other talented Squishface alumni.

Self Portrait

Ah yes the drawing-myself-from-a-mirror expression :I singularly unimpressed look haha.
This drawing is inked and coloured digitally.

Self-portraits are fun but hopefully soon I'll get a chance to get back to doing a few portrait paintings/ charcoal sketches.

Baby Hippo gotta dance

This drawing started out as a small chalk drawing for a friend - this version is inked and digitally coloured. I'm planning to go to the zoo soon to get some practice sketching  animals, (probably not dancing.)

Update: You can now grab this as a print from Squishface Studio. Prints are little bigger than A3 size. Awesome printing on Cotton rag paper 300gsm by Lantern Printing.

Onwards !!

Recently finished two A3 pieces
I've been working on - both are painted with gouache and blue ink. They are soon to be little postcards - next I'll be making boarders  and backing pages for them.

No kidding

As apart of some course work we were asked to do a black and white illustration of something with texture - I went with a furry goat - possibly the most fed up looking goat ever. Drawn with a biro pen, I'd never used one to draw with before - really like em now.

The Sketchbook Project

I've sent off my sketchbook to The Sketchbook Project (such a great concept.)
So rushed in the end -next year will spend longer with it!
The whole project has inspired me to start keeping a sketchbook again -rather than my current process of just scribbling on butcher's paper (...receipts, lolly wrappers, cafe serviettes ect) when I get an idea and then moving on to nice drawing paper when I'm happy with it.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice

Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice - by first attempt at vector art.

Great to learn something new - looking forward to getting quicker at it and integrating it into my other work - but for now I'm excited to get back to some pencil drawing and away from a screen.

This little piggy

A study of a very happy (and slightly creepy) little piggy bank I had as a kid and found again when I moved to Melb.

Christmas eve

Last night I had a small Christmas gathering in my new Melbourne home.

A very traditional affair featuring fairy lights Japanese takeaway and the Christmas ironing board (esp. festive), also debuted some of my Chrissy cards.
